Question:
After submitting my Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) application, can I leave Canada and re-enter? And during the processing period, am I still allowed to work full-time?
Answer:
Yes. If you are in Canada and plan to travel abroad, you must have a valid Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) or eTA to re-enter Canada. Without it, you may be denied entry, even if you have applied for or currently hold a PGWP.
If you leave Canada and return after submitting your PGWP application:
-
You may continue to work full-time while awaiting the decision.
-
Leaving and re-entering Canada does not interrupt your work authorization.
When re-entering Canada, you must meet the standard entry requirements:
-
A valid passport or travel document.
-
Good health and no criminal or immigration violations.
-
Proof of ties to your home country (e.g., employment, housing, finances, family).
-
Commitment to leave Canada at the end of your authorized stay.
-
Sufficient funds for your time in Canada.
-
Valid immigration medical exam results, if required.
