Question:

After submitting my Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) application, can I leave Canada and re-enter? And during the processing period, am I still allowed to work full-time?

Answer:

Yes. If you are in Canada and plan to travel abroad, you must have a valid Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) or eTA to re-enter Canada. Without it, you may be denied entry, even if you have applied for or currently hold a PGWP.

If you leave Canada and return after submitting your PGWP application:

  • You may continue to work full-time while awaiting the decision.

  • Leaving and re-entering Canada does not interrupt your work authorization.

When re-entering Canada, you must meet the standard entry requirements:

  1. A valid passport or travel document.

  2. Good health and no criminal or immigration violations.

  3. Proof of ties to your home country (e.g., employment, housing, finances, family).

  4. Commitment to leave Canada at the end of your authorized stay.

  5. Sufficient funds for your time in Canada.

  6. Valid immigration medical exam results, if required.
